Macquarie University Hospital ‘Cockpit’
Macquarie University Hospital is using Monitor’s POS solution for patients to pay for goods on site.
Monitor has been working with Macquarie University Hospital to create some amazing new features to ensure their patients’ stay is a more comfortable experience and also that their staff’s work life is hassle free. Using various Monitor products including Supervisor Net, the team at Monitor in New South Wales has created a solution that is a first in hospitals in the Southern Hemisphere.
Every overnight patient will have access to a system, known as a ‘cockpit’ that will allow them to operate a number of features including:
- Patient entertainment, including FoxTel television and movies on demand
- Internet access
- Telephone (free local calls and Skype)
- Call button for the nurse
- Meal ordering via Monitor’s shopping basket application
- Medical records – the patients health care team can see and update their medical record on the cockpit.
Overnight patients will be offered a charge card that will allow them to cover the cost of the entertainment system and telephone as well as being able to use their charge cards at the hospital café. Patients can credit their accounts by adding value at iBeam Kiosks throughout the hospital or they can add value from the comfort of their beds using My Monitor. When discharged, patients with any outstanding funds on their charge card can have these credited back to their credit card or EFTPOS card.
Hospital staff’s ID cards have also been enhanced with staff able to use them to pay for items such as food and drinks throughout the hospital using Monitor’s POS solution – iPOS. Using the iBeam Kiosks throughout the hospital, staff can also add value to their account. Staff will also have access to My Monitor, which will allow them to not only add value to their account via the web but purchase goods from the hospital using My Monitor’s shopping basket application.
